Controlling Exchange Pathways in Dynamic Supramolecular Polymers by Controlling Defects

چکیده
Supramolecular fibers composed of monomers that self-assemble directionally via noncovalent interactions are ubiquitous in nature, and great interest chemistry. In these structures, the constitutive continuously exchange in-and-out assembly according to a well-defined supramolecular equilibrium. However, unraveling pathways their molecular determinants constitutes nontrivial challenge. Here, we combine coarse-grained modeling, enhanced sampling, machine learning investigate key factors controlling monomer synthetic polymers having an intrinsic dynamic behavior. We demonstrate how competition directional vs. nondirectional between controls creation/annihilation defects polymers, from where proceeds. This determines pathway, dictating whether fiber statistically swaps tips or all along its length. Finally, thanks generality, our models allow investigation approaches control assemblies.

Controlling Photoconductivity in PBI Films by Supramolecular Assembly.
Perylene bisimides (PBIs) self-assemble in solution. The solubility of the PBIs is commonly changed through the choice of substituents at the imide positions. It is generally assumed this substitution does not affect the electronic properties of the PBI, and that the properties of the self-assembled aggregate are essentially that of the isolated molecule. However, substituents do affect the sel...
متن کاملControlling the Size, Shape and Stability of Supramolecular Polymers in Water
For aqueous based supramolecular polymers, the simultaneous control over shape, size and stability is very difficult. At the same time, the ability to do so is highly important in view of a number of applications in functional soft matter including electronics, biomedical engineering, and sensors. In the past, successful strategies to control the size and shape of supramolecular polymers typica...
متن کاملDynamic diversity of synthetic supramolecular polymers in water as revealed by hydrogen/deuterium exchange
Numerous self-assembling molecules have been synthesized aiming at mimicking both the structural and dynamic properties found in living systems. Here we show the application of hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX) mass spectrometry (MS) to unravel the nanoscale organization and the structural dynamics of synthetic supramolecular polymers in water. We select benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide (BTA) deriv...
متن کاملControlling monomer-sequence using supramolecular templates
The monomer sequences in biopolymers such as nucleic acids and proteins are strongly linked to their function, and even small errors can yield non-functional macromolecules, or worse. Nature therefore expends significant resources on the (nearly) flawless synthesis of these polymers. For example, DNA is replicated using DNA polymerases, which achieve error rates as low as 1 in 10 nucleotide add...
